Island Anchor Privacy Policy
Overview
Island Anchor helps local businesses publish public-facing business information. For approved business updaters, this includes a text messaging service used to manage hours of operation and temporary same-day closures.
Information We Collect
- Business profile details you submit (name, address, category, and hours/events data).
- Phone numbers designated as approved business updaters.
- SMS message metadata and content, including sender number, message body, timestamps, confirmations, and responses.
How We Use Information
- To authenticate approved updater numbers.
- To process, format, confirm, and apply requested hours or closure changes.
- To maintain an operational log of inbound and outbound SMS activity.
- To prevent unauthorized updates and abuse.
SMS Consent and Opt-In
The Island Anchor texting service is limited to phone numbers that have already been
approved by a participating business or Island Anchor administrator. After approval, a
user opts in by texting START to the Island Anchor messaging number. Message
frequency varies based on the user’s requests, confirmation steps, and support
interactions. Message and data rates may apply.
Consent to receive SMS messages is not a condition of purchase. Approved users can reply
STOP to opt out and HELP to view usage guidance. The texting
service is intended for operational updates only, not marketing or promotional messaging.
How the Texting Service Works
Once an approved user has opted in, Island Anchor may use incoming text messages to help
manage business hours and temporary same-day closures. The service returns a formatted
confirmation message before saving changes. No change is applied until the user replies
with a confirmation such as YES.
Data Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate this service (for example, SMS delivery providers and hosting/network services). SMS opt-in consent and mobile phone number data is not shared, sold, rented, or disclosed to third parties or affiliates for marketing, promotional, lead-generation, or third-party analytics purposes.
Data Retention
We retain operational records for as long as needed to provide the service, troubleshoot issues, confirm update history, and meet legal or compliance obligations.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect stored information. No system is 100% secure.
